Tissues and Toilet Paper

Put in Garbage

Do Not Recycle

Although tissues and toilet paper are made from paper, the fibers are too short to be recycled and reused.

Do Not Flush Facial Tissue

Unlike toilet paper, facial tissue is not designed to break down in water.

Ways to Reduce

Choose Eco-Friendly Tissue

Toilet paper and tissues made from bamboo, unbleached paper or recycled paper are more eco-friendly than generic bath or facial tissue.

Switch to a Bidet

Cut back on paper use in the bathroom by using a bidet as an alternative to toilet paper.

Go Old School With a Handkerchief

Choose a soft and reusable alternative to tissues by switching to handkerchiefs. Throw in the wash after use to keep them hygienic.
